Beam Me Up!

ECB Scaffolding used a 32m x 32m grid of 750mm deep Layher aluminium beams to ensure no scaffold touched the upper roof section during the installation of the helideck on the Princess Alexandra Hospital Redevelopment in Brisbane.

The beams were only supported in nine positions and then cantilevered out, ranging in size from 3m to 5.5m, in all directions to pick up the mass of scaffold. The $88m development will triple the size of the existing emergency department at the hospital and provide 41,800m² of new and upgraded space.

Director Scott Wallace said ECB's experience using Layher aluminium beams on other projects enabled them to build the scaffold in a way that the client wanted and not just the way that suited the scaffold companies.
