Not for eight hundred years has the Chartres Cathedral in France looked quite this modern. One of the finest examples of 13C gothic cathedrals, it is now undergoing a facelift - though some of us think that the restorers will be hard pressed to leave it looking better than it does now with its cladding of Allround!
Scaffolders had to take particular care of the delicate carving at the south entrance and the original stained glass windows (the south rose window is behind the netting in the photo), which had been taken out then restored during the war. They are the most complete set of original stained glass windows still in existence.
Thanks to Benjamin Mossman, formerly yardie for Layher in Wellington, for this photo.
