Congratulations to Hugh Laity of Taupo's Euro Scaffolds on this bridge crossing State Highway 1. It was installed for the Taupo Ironman which, as part of the World Ironman Series, has an estimated television audience of 100 million.
In previous years road traffic was backed up for several kilometres to allow the competitors to cross the highway. Having seen this, Hugh thought there had to be a better way!
The bridge was designed by Layher's engineers in Germany to ensure that it met the loading requirement of up to eight
athletes pounding across in unison. Of particular interest are the standards on the ramps which are angled to create the slope.
