The North-South Bypass Tunnel is a massive infrastructure project currently underway in Brisbane and being built by the Leighton Contractors & Baulderstone Hornibrook Bilfinger Berger Joint Venture (LBBJV). The five kilometre dual road tunnel will provide a direct cross-city link bypassing the CBD.
The two site office blocks at Bowen Hills on the North side of the Brisbane River needed a variety of stair accesses for the duration of the project.
Layher's Engineering and Technical Department designed four 12m high stair towers for a 5 kN/sqm live loading, as well as a some smaller stair towers, all of which were assembled by Karabiner Access. As can be seen, the design of the stair tower shown is quite complex to allow for the location of the doors and the limited space requirements.
Thanks to Karabiner Access for the use of this photo.
