In May 2009 the four yearly major maintenance shutdown was completed at Anglesea Power Station. CGE Hire built a 1700mē scaffold within the furnace to provide full access to the hearth, water-wall tubes and platen elements.
"CGE Hire successfully completed the design, supply and installation of this scaffold, the first time that this task had been achieved in the 40+ year existence of the station," said William Dempsey, AHEA Shutdown Team Leader. Significant design challenges were met to assure structural integrity of the complete scaffold-furnace assembly by installation of an external support strut system.
In addition, late challenges to the layout of the system caused by greater than expected distortion of hearth and water-wall geometry were successfully catered for with minimal disruption to progress of serial shutdown repair requirements.
