During construction of the NZ Transport Agency's new Tauranga Harbour Bridge, Fletcher Construction required access onto the pier
crossheads from the bridge deck to feed slipper pads between the bridge and bearings.
The scaffold had to cantilever out from the crosshead with no direct connection to the deck as superstructure moved independently
from the substructure. Layher's design team came up with a system that was chosen due to its lightweight, but stiff trusses
providing stable platforms.
Lack of a pile cap to build conventional scaffold, differing pier heights, differing bridge slope and
crossfalls, along with a busy harbour channel below were other considerations. Thanks to Camelspace and Acrow Ltd for their
contributions.
